It’s All in a Name

Today, we are linking up with Andrea over at Momfessionals for Show and Tell Tuesdays!!  Show and Tell - IG Graphic (1)

Today’s topic is about how you chose your childrens’ names, and I thought this was so fun!  🙂

We have 3 kids and picking their names was one of my favorite parts of expecting!  Robert and I tend to have the same exact taste in names which was so helpful during the process!

Jackson David

I’m not going to lie.  I’m obsessed with Steel Magnolias.  Just be glad I didn’t name someone Weezer.  The name Jackson has been on my heart for a long time, and I was so excited to be able to use it! He goes by his full name at school, but at home…he’s just Jack unless I’m really trying to get his attention.  😉 David is Robert’s father’s name so it was the perfect finish!

Luke Taylor

So, in between the boys, we had a 4-year struggle with infertility.  I will say that going through something like that for that extended period of time can be heartbreaking so we leaned pretty heavily on God’s promises to get us through.

One particular verse became “our verse” during that time…

Luke 5:9-13

“So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.

“Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”

So, we just kept on “knocking on God’s door” claiming this verse, and one day…we were pregnant (totally naturally without any drugs or treatment)…and, we had two sweet boys who were exactly 5 years and 5 days apart.  🙂

So, we knew our Luke had to be Luke because of how special that verse was to us. 🙂  Taylor is my brother’s name, and Luke is the spitting image of him when he was little. 🙂

Presley Ava-Grace

When Luke was 7 months old, we got pregnant again.  Yes, really.  They are 16 months apart. 🙂  And, don’t you know that God loves showing his BIG power by doing something amazing like that after we had tried so hard to have Luke?!

Presley was a name that we found in a baby book back when we were pregnant with Jackson, and it just stuck! People usually ask if we named her after Elvis Presley (um, no).  Ha!  Oops!  I guess we never considered that people would think that.  However, it totally makes sense! Ava is a family name on my side, and Grace is a family name on Robert’s side.

That was so fun!! Thank you for hosting, Andrea!

Tomorrow, we are voting on something fun!  You won’t want to miss it! Happy Tuesday, y’all! XOXO Narci

  1. All the PERFECT names for your kiddos! And I share your obsession of Steel Magnolias, which is why Carter’s middle name is Jackson! We had it picked out since high school!!!!! (We watched Steel Magnolias on VHS after our first date…which was the Valentine’s Day dance at LH!) 🙂

  2. Such a fun post to read. We just had our second child, little boy, three weeks ago. We named him Lucas – the Spanish version of Luke. My husband’s favorite verse growing up had been Luke 23:46 and since he is Mexican we went with the Spanish version for our little guy. 🙂

  3. Sweet sweet names, love how you picked each one. Especially love the little story behind Luke’s. Waiting for a baby is definitely one of the harder struggles that God gives us.

  4. Oh my goodness….all beautiful names but I love your story about Luke. I have a friend who named her daughter Hope…after miscarrying one and fearing another miscarriage she found Jeremiah 29:11 and held to it. Sweetness.
