Photo 101: Storing your Photos

Last month, we started this awesome monthly feature about photography!   It was a big hit with you gorgeous ladies, so I am so happy to be answering your photo-related questions again and sharing a few tips along the way!!     Each month, we will talk about  being a mom with a camera, taking great iPhone shots, where to print, and much more!

This month, we are talking about photo storage on our computers.   This was your number one question about photography in general, and I totally get that!

Because I work with a large number of images with work, I subscribe to a service that backs up my files online on a regular basis.  This way, I can free up my computer hard drive!  Carbonite and Norton are both great options for this!

Just to keep things simple, I have everything divided into Business and Personal.

And, then divided by the year.

And, then subdivided by each month of the year. πŸ™‚ img_7471

In each month, I have a folder for just sweet random shots and each special event from the month.  This makes it so much easier to find an image when I am looking for one! πŸ™‚

In addition to backing up our files online, I back up images to labeled flash drives as well.  I just find it easier to access images this way! πŸ™‚

What are your photo storage tips?  I know there have to be some pretty creative ideas out there!!   Feel free to share them in the comments!  Also, if you have a topic for future Photo 101 posts, then I’d love to hear it!

Happy Wednesday, y’all!!  XOXO Narci

  1. Love this! Thank you! I organize mine by year but don’t put them in by month (I just label the month) so this might be neater and make my husband happier πŸ˜‰

  2. Ahh! This was my new year’s resolution and this was a good reminder for me to push through! (I was such a digital mess!) πŸ™‚ My favorite new thing is prime photos … they AUTOMATICALLY upload from my phone when I get home and connected to wifi! No work at all! Then I just slid them over to my hard drive for back up! And Prime has UNLIMITED storage space! It’s awesome!

  4. I recently bought a 1 terabyte external hard drive and have been loading all my old photo cd’s from the past 15 years. This should hold millions of pictures if needed
and they will all be in one place. I think it would be beneficial to have a photos in a couple of places for safety.
