Home: Floor Round Up

Hey, y’all!!  I hope you have had a great few weeks!  I have missed all of you so much!  We had a great time with our little family, but we are back in the saddle and ready to get back into the swing of the new year!  Woohoo!  If you filled out our survey yesterday, thank you so much!   Your answers were so helpful!

So, quite a few of you have been asking for more home posts, so I am going to do my best to work these in here as I can!   One of the number 1 home questions that I get are all about my Floors/Rugs/and Floor Care.  Truth be told, I am a little obsessed with a good rug and keeping my floors clean…so I love that y’all are into this as well!  So, here’s the 411 on where I get my rugs, how I clean my floors, and my favorite floor products to use!  Let’s get started!

Let’s hear it for the rugs!

We have two kinds of rugs in our house!   The first are the causal rugs in the kitchen/bathrooms/studio and such!img_3230

I buy all of these rugs at random spots like Target, Home Goods, and Rugs USA.   In my opinion, these rugs are trendy and fun, so I don’t like to spend a ton of money on these!  It’s an easy way to keep your home on trend without breaking bank!  The smaller bathrooms rugs and ones by my kitchen sink tend to wear out quickly so they get replaced a few times a year.  The ones in my kitchen  nook and studio were laid down when we moved in two years ago and still look great!  I bought these two off Rugs USA if you are looking for something like them specifically!

The other kind of rugs that we own are these more Classic Persian rugs!

These are handwoven and a bigger investment, but I don’t have any plans of changing these ever. ;).  We bought them through a dealer who imports them and is no longer in business.  This style of Persian rug is called Bakhtiari. :). Something you may not know: my dad is from the Middle East, and these rugs were made in the same village where he grew up…I just think it’s neat to have these in our home…not only because they are beautiful, but they tell a story as well. 🙂

My favorite floor cleaning products and tools…

A lot of you ask how we keep our floors clean, and I am going to tell you that a lot of it is that we are careful…we leave our shoes at the door and don’t walk in the house with them…and the kids have been trained from an early age to wipe their feet before they come in (if they were barefoot outside) and just be mindful of the mess they make…Another note:  Speaking of our kids, keeping the house tidy is a family responsibility…the kids help around the house with vacuuming, sweeping, and mopping floors…and sometimes they can earn technology time for doing so.   Mostly, we have them help  with no reward just because they help make the mess…so they can help clean it up also. One of my girlfriends has 5 kids (they are all teens and college/young adult age now), and I always admired how they worked together to get big tasks done quickly when my kids were younger, so I knew I would be implementing that as my kids got older!   All of her kiddos are sweet, responsible, humble, and hardworking now…so I will take all of the advice she can give! haha!

So, anyway…a clean floor makes this girl happy as can be!  So, I have spent a lot of time figuring out which products work best!  So, here’s what we use when we clean our floors!

I feel like I am in the middle of the Rascal Flatts song when I think of this mop.  Dear Casabella microfiber mop, God blessed the broken road of trying one million different mops and led me straight to you.  😉

It’s a simple microfiber mop that you can wring dry, and I use it on all my floors, but it works best on my hardwoods.  It makes my floors nice and shiny and is pretty much perfect in every day!   I’ve tried all sorts of steam mops and handheld mops, and this one is definitely the best.  The microfiber part is removable, washable, and replaceable.  :).

I use this cleaner  with my mop, because it is safe for the hardwoods and always makes them look nice and shiny!  We do this 2-3 times per week. 🙂

The real MVP of our floor situation is this vacuum though.  🙂 Here’s the deal…we can be as careful as we want, but with 3 kids and a dog, our floors get dirty all day long…so I pull this cordless vacuum out after each meal, and it is amazing!

Also, it’s great for stairs, under cabinets, and all those nooks and crannies that other vacuums don’t reach.  The people at Dyson aren’t paying me anything for this review, but they should…because I am president of the Dyson fan club.  If you need a new handheld vacuum and do lots of cleanup throughout your day…this is the one for you.  #passionate

So, there you go!  All your floor questions answered!   Woohoo!  Tomorrow we’re talking resolutions and goals!   I can’t wait!   Happy Tuesday, y’all! XOXO N

  1. I didn’t know that about your dad and the Persian rugs! That makes those even more special! So glad readers asked about your rugs because I learned something new today!

  2. When we built and picked out floors, the hardwood dealer said, “don’t use any product on your floors, use vinegar and water.” (and he could have sold me any product he wanted to because I want shiny floors!!) He said that the products will eventually leave a film on your floors. Do you find that with this brand? I think it’s more over time than just quickly happening, but just wondering what your opinion was since you do seem pretty passionate about floors 🙂

  3. I enjoyed this post and that your kids help with helping keep the house clean. I haven’t seen you mention or seen pictures of your dog for a while. How’s she doing?

    • She’s doing great! I was just telling someone on IG the other day…she’s part Yorkie so she is just super busy and hardly ever sits still, so I just don’t take a ton of pics of her because of this. She is happy as a clam and is ALWAYS involved with what the kids are doing and playing. She’s a great family dog and their little buddy. 🙂 She turns two next month, and I’ve just started noticing that she’s starting to be able to chill a bit more for snuggles and such. 🙂 We all love her!

  4. I love your house and now I want to order all the rugs and a new mop! haha! I will say that my dyson is my favorite item in the entire house. The kids know that is my prized possession, lol.

  5. Thanks for your tips! Dumb question, but what is the best method for putting the map in the cleaner? Do you just use a regular bucket? Thanks for sharing your tips!

  6. Random question…I’ve always noticed/admired your fire place. Where did you find the stone surface and mantle. Looking to redo our soon.

I love to hear from you! Leave a comment here! :) XO Narci
