Carpool Book Club

Hey, y’all!  Happy Tuesday!  Today, it’s time for my very favorite post….It’s time for Carpool Book Club!

Each month, I share about the books that I’ve read.  These are the books that sit on my nightstand and that I read as a busy mama of 3 kids.  Before I started reading, I had a lot of empty space during the in between time.  You know, the time when I am waiting for an appointment, by the pool, or sitting at a sports practice….picking up a good book is my favorite way to pass that extra time now.  🙂  The last book club that I did was at the beginning of December, so I have had lots of time to read since then. Because of that, I have a great list this month.  You are going to love it all!

The Line-Up

It’s Not Supposed to Be This Way

Oh my stars, this book is so good. 🙂 Lysa wrote it as she walked through her marital issues, and I really found it to be an honest portrayal of her emotions and how she turned to God during those hard times.  It’s a good one, y’all!

Also awesome? Last month, my friend Shay did her best of 2018 book review. Did you se that?  If you haven’t checked her out, She really has the best book recommendations! So, since I hadn’t read several of her favorites,  I added quite a few to my list and they did not disappoint. 🙂

Where the Crawdads Sing

Well, this book completely blew me away.  I was totally captivated by the story line, and the author did such a great job of making you feel like you were in the middle of the story.  So good.  If you haven’t read this one, add it to your list right now.   It is fabulous!

The Last Mrs. Parrish

This one was a good thriller and definitely worth the read….the story line seemed like it was like a few that I had read before.  So, that part was disappointing, but it still kept me interested for sure. 🙂

Swear On This Life

Okay, I really enjoyed this book.  It was so thoughtfully written, and I was really invested in the characters!  It’s pretty raw in places and even a little R-rated, but I thought it flowed really well with the story and wasn’t just in there for shock value.  I liked this one a lot.

When Life Gives You Lululemons

This book was so light and funny.  Oh my goodness.  I laughed out loud at several parts of this one.  The main characters are over the top and just make for funny reading.  It reminded me of a bravo TV show, and I was here for it.

Hissy Fit

And, finally, I read Hissy Fit.  I really think Mary Kay Andrew may be one of my very favorite authors.  All of her books are super cute, light reads that give me all the warm fuzzies.  And, this book did not disappoint in that area for sure.  I loved where she went with this storyline.  Honestly, reading her books are like watching a Hallmark movie, and I like it. ha!

What I am reading right now

Raising Kingdom Kids

You may remember that I read Tony Evans book Detours last fall ( and loved it!), so when this book popped up in my recommended books I grabbed it.  I’m only halfway through, but this one is a winner as well.  Tony Evans has such a gift for Gospel-centered encouragement.  I definitely recommend reading this one.  It’s chalk full of goodness, and I totally recommend it to all the parents out there!

Something in the Water

And, I just began this book, but it already has me hooked!  I’ll include my review in our next Book Club, for sure. 🙂

Happy Thursday, friends! We will see you back here tomorrow for Friday Favorites! XO Narci

  1. I don’t think I’ve picked up a book in weeks!!! Ugh!!! I was a couple chapters in on Something in the Water. Need to pick it back up!

  2. I’m in the middle of When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi. It’s a moving true account of a brilliant neurosurgeon who “one day was a doctor treating the dying and the next was a patient dying of stage IV lung cancer.” It’s a beautiful story of a man confronting his own mortality.

  3. The Last Mrs. Parrish is really good! I’m reading Where the Crawdads Sing now and you’re right, you feel like you are there.

  4. Swear on this Life is phenomenal! I was captivated by the first few chapters and found myself nearly in tears as I thought of actual students in my classroom whom I think are living very similar loves to Em and Jace.

  5. What a great lineup!! Another blogger mentioned “It’s not supposed to be this way”… I’ll have to add it to my list ! Thanks so much for sharing. Always looking for new book ideas!
