Another Milestone Birthday Coming: Needing your advice!

Hey, hey y’all!  Happy Tuesday, from me. I don’t know about you, but I am over here thinking about vacations.

Maybe you guys remember, but last year I turned 40, and we celebrated in Paradise: in Turks and Caicos. 🙂

It was our first trip away since becoming parents (i know this is crazy!), and we had the best time. 🙂

So, fast forward to December of 2020, and we will be celebrating another milestone!

My man is turning 50!  Holy Moly!  That escalated quickly! (he’s 8.5 years older than me, if you are doing the math.)

Anyway, we are wanting to take another once-in-a-lifetime trip to celebrate.  This time, we are bringing the kids and would love all your thoughts on where to go.

While an ultimate beach trip was my dream destination, Rob is more action-oriented when he vacations…maybe skiing someplace fabulous? Or maybe Europe?  He’s never been. To make this happen budget-wise, we are foregoing a few other trips and would love your help thinking BIG! 🙂

I’m all ears, and I would love to know your thoughts! Please leave me a comment with your favorite bucket list vacation….whether you’ve been there or just dream about it.  I am so excited to celebrate Rob this year.  I am so super proud of him. 🙂

Happy Tuesday, y’all! Much love, Narci

  1. South Africa is a must!
So much to see and do. Hiking up Table Mountain, Shark Cage Diving, going on Safari to see the big 5. I can go on and on! Add it to your list, you wont regret it!

  3. Looks like you had a fabulous 40th birthday! My husband and I celebrated our 40th with a trip to Charleston (we didn’t have passports at the time so we were fairly limited). My husband also likes adventure vacations but he’s more the hiking/ nature type guy. He used to ski all the time though and always said his favorite ski trip was to British Colombia with Tahoe being a close second.

  4. If he likes adventure, Iceland or New Zealand are great. They are both super awesome! Something closer to home on our bucket list is Banff.

  5. I bet Shay has all kinds of good ideas! I am going on my first trip this year for my 20th Anniversary. I haven’t ever been out of the country. We’re head to Aruba.

    • Paula, we just got back from Aruba on a couples trip and it was INCREDIBLE!!! I am not one to want to go back somewhere when there are so many places in the world to see, but I will go back to Aruba! It was so beautiful and relaxing and sunny and lovely and friendly!! Have the best time!!

  6. We just went to Hawaii and it would be a great trip for a family, although it is expensive even with staying within the US. We also love Portugal (Lisbon) and Spain (Barcelona). We stayed at AirBnbs in both of those places, great prices for lovely apartments.

If you head over to my blog, you can read all about our trips (see the label for Travel, or for specific destinations).

And since I’m from Canada, I should promote us!! Go to Vancouver, a lovely city in itself, but you can also get in some great skiing. And you may even catch a glimpse of Meghan and Harry!! (although their current home is on Vancouver Island, not in the City of Vancouver).

  7. I have a big one this year (40) and my dad has a big one this year too (70) so we are heading to Iceland. I really want to see the Northern Lights. Iceland has so many beautiful spots (at least it looked like it on RHOBH) to see and lots of adventures to take. We are going with our kids (9 &11), my parents, and my sister/husband. Have fun finding a fun destination!!

  8. If you want something unique and wonderful, check out the ice hotels in northern Sweden or other Scandinavian countries. There is one in Canada too – Hallmark filmed there in the last year or two. The hotels are carved from huge chunks of ice each summer and last only a few months. Each hotel is slightly different. Winter is the time to go… This is on my bucket list!

  9. My family loves going on outdoor/adventure type vacations. So much so, that we often need a vacation from our vacation hahaha! When my children were around 16 and 13 we took a family trip to Iceland in July. There are tons of things to do for an outdoor family- hiking, waterfalls, horseback riding (Icelandic horses), and even snorkeling the Eurasia tectonic plates. It was definitely one of our favorite vacations! Also, very economical as far as flights etc. Hawaii would be another suggestion – a vacation where you can enjoy the beach but also the outdoors- lots of hiking, waterfalls, outdoor adventure with downtime relaxing in the sun.

  10. Hands down, Maui!!!! Specifically The Grand Wailea. Seriously you can’t go wrong. There is so much to do for kids and adults. I have a ton of great recommendations/cost efficient options while you’re there.

  11. WHISTLER, CANADA! The exchange rate means that everything is pretty affordable for an upscale resort town. It’s great in the winter if you love to ski, but I absolutely love it in the spring and summer. So many hikes, biking trails, boating, bungee jumping, rock climbing, gondola riding. It’s amazing. You can fly into Vancouver or Seattle and drive (about 4 hours from Seattle and 1.5 from Vancouver), but there are also shuttles from the Vancouver airport if you don’t want to rent a car (you don’t necessarily need one).

  12. 1. Lanai, Hawaii. Best place to avoid crowds 🙂 We’ve been seven times (you can find incredible homes on VRBO). It has changed a lot recently! Plenty of activities: off-roasting, clay shooting, swimming at the pools/ocean and snorkeling.

    2. Ski at Telluride. The Peaks hotel has an indoor water slide 🙂

  13. Costa Rica! It has something for everyone. Beaches, mountains, etc. It’s so easy to navigate on your own too! Can’t wait to hear what you pick!

I love to hear from you! Leave a comment here! :) XO Narci
