Cooking from Scratch

Happy Monday!  How are you doing, today?  I hope you don’t get tired of me saying this, but I prayed for you this morning.  I love you all so much!

So, I wanted to share something that we have been up to over here.  Normally, I don’t have time to branch out and try new recipes that are from scratch, but we are so enjoying doing this during our time at home right now.  You know what I thought would be fun?  A big recipe swap today.  I will share what we’ve been making lately, and maybe you will feel inspired to share some of your favorite scratch recipes in the comments.  I would love that!

Beth Moore posted this recipe last week, and I was instantly drawn to it because look at how loved that recipe page is!!  We made it this weekend, and it was delicious!

We also tried making bread , and it turned out really well!  This was so good.  Here is the recipe for that bread if you are looking for one

Do you have a favorite recipe that is “from scratch” and that we can try?  I would love it if you would leave it in the comments! I don’t know about you, but slowing down to make from scratch recipes is good for my heart. This slower pace opens my ears to what my kids and family are saying…out loud and the underlying subtext…and it has me living at a pace that isn’t always trying to accomplish more.  Good stuff all wrapped up in a simple recipe, if you ask me. 🙂

  1. My boys and I almost always cook from scratch; my middle son wants to study culinary arts and this year he’s really pushed us to try making so many things I had never though to try… like croissants, English muffins, jam tartlets, and flat breads.


  2. Banana Bread

    3 large ripe/ brownish yellow mashed Bananas
    1 stick of butter/ I usually use less because 1 stick is so much butter
    2 eggs
    1 cup of sugar
    1 teaspoon baking soda
    2 cups flour
    1/2 cup milk
    Splash of vanilla extract
    Shakes of cinnamon

    Mix softened butter with sugar, add eggs then banana & vanilla

    Mix dry ingredients, add to bowl

    Add 1/2 cup milk , stir in

    Pour Mixture into greased bread pan

    Can shake a little more cinnamon on top

    Bake uncovered for 60 minutes at 350 degrees

    Let sit for 5-10 minutes before cutting

    ***May need to cook five minutes longer- check at 55 and then 60 minutes
