House Update & Packing Tips

Happy Monday!  In case you missed it over on the gram, we have some very sweet news to share over here:

We found and signed a contract for a house!!

I have SO MANY things that I can’t wait to share with y’all about the new house, but I am going to wait until it’s actually officially ours to dig in. Thank you, thank you, thank you for all of your incredibly kind words and sweet comments and emails about our news.  Your support has been just breathtaking and such a precious gift.   Thank you for being excited for our crew. We close in a month, and I can’t wait to share more about it all on here. We are just so very thankful!

Since we are packing things up over here, I asked y’all for some great packing tips, and oh my stars did you guys deliver!

Packing Tips

Quite a few people asked for me to publish these tips for you to reference later, and I am so happy to share them with you today! Before I do that, I added my 5 favorite tips (that were all you from you guys..thank you!) to get you started.

  1.  Start with the hardest rooms first–We did the kitchen and master closet first and this was fantastic!  About halfway through the ktichen, I was regretting the kitchen.  However, now it feels so good to have this done. and not looming over us.  We’ve also done Presley’s room, the playroom, and the media room.
  2. Purge and then pack–since we are downsizing, I have made a pretty extensive donate pile during the process.
  3. Label everything.
  4. Pack away seasonal decor and items first.
  5. Ask friends for leftover boxes and packing materials.  This has been huge.  We have received so many donated boxes!

Want to check out the rest of the tips?  There were some amazing ones submitted.  Moving can be a beast, but these tips are so incredibly helpful. 🙂

Happy Monday, friends!  I will see you here on Wednesday with a little bit of what’s going on around here.  See you then! XO Narci

  1. Congrats on the new home! Very happy for you. Love all the packing tips! Can’t wait to read more of your what’s happening.

My tip is to label a box on all sides – often the boxes get rotated around during loading and off loading, etc. You will be able to read what the where/what contents are…

  2. Don’t know if someone said this already, but when taking down art from the wall, use mailing tape to attach the hardware to the back. Then it’s ready to hang back up in your new place! 🙂

  3. I have moved my youngest many times since high school graduation, college etc. The easiest way to move clothes on hangers is to pull a black garbage bag from the bottom and tie around the hangers. You can usually do 10-12 hangers at a time. Take them to the new house and they are ready to hang.

  4. So excited for you. Thank you for posting all of the suggestions. Some–such as purging–is great for spring cleaning during the pandemic.

  5. There are some great tips here like borrowing boxes, purge before you pack, pack one room at a time, color code and label boxes well. Here are a few more tips that have saved my sanity during our last few moves. First, have everyone pack a duffle or suitcase as if you’re going on vacation so that everyone has clean clothes, toothpaste, soap, and books or games readily accessible. Second, ask the movers to put all of the boxes along the walls of the garage (preferably in color-coded order), so that you can bring in and unpack one or two boxes at a time. And third, unpack the kitchen first. It will instantly feel more like your home when the family can sit around the table together. Last one! I found having two sets of cleaning supplies like trash bags, spray and paper towels (one for the former house and one for the new) really helped me from having to lug things back and forth on those last few days. Congratulations on your new home!

  6. This is so exciting and I can’t wait to see your new home!

What made you all decide to buy instead of build?

I love to hear from you! Leave a comment here! :) XO Narci
