Today, we are talking about dressing for Family photos!!  This is easily the number one question that I get from my clients!   I am so happy to be sharing my answers with y’all here today! I divided this topic into two categories….Yesterday, I listed some of my favorite guidelines…and today, I am showing some actual items that I think would be great for Fall Family photos this season!   Here we go!   Part 2!  If you’d like more details on these items, you can click on the image!

First, I am looking at you, mamas!   I love a simple or flattering silhouette with a fun pattern!  This precious polka dot dress fits the bill perfectly!

And, please give me all the stripes!   I own this dress, and it is comfy while still providing a clean line that looks great in photos!! Oh, friends, give me all the fitted jackets.  I love these, because a tailored dimension to your outfit that is really flattering.   🙂 This utility jacket is just the cutest!
This top is an excellent way to introduce plaid to your wardrobe plan without doing a button down!   Plus, the sleeve has a great detail!   I love that it’s flowy too!Currently, grey jeans are all the rage, and I am a big fan…Plus, this is a great way of introducing denim  without it being too casual.  I love this darker wash grey jeans for Family photos! My mantra–when in doubt, add a scarf to it.    This plaid scarf is gorgeous, and is an easy way to add visual interest to an image!

And, I love the color of this cable knit  scarf as well!  This color is universally a good color for most people plus it adds s touch of coziness to a photo as well!

Last week, I was at the mall, and I ran across these darling leopard flats.  The price point is good, and I was shocked by how comfortable they were.  I think they’d be the perfect pop for any Family photo session. 🙂

Need some inspiration for the boys in your family?   I have you covered there!   I love a good button down for boys

paired with a puffer vest
And, the possibilities are nearly endless for girls!   If you want to make a big investment, we love Matilda Jane for a unique and whimsical outfit!   Also, I absolutely love some of the options that Old Navy has for girls as well!  This dress and cardi would be a sweet dressier look…

And, I love that darling cargo jacket with the floral dress!  A few other dresses that I love… paired with either of these vests would be just precious!

There you go!! All kinds of great options for Family pictures!!  Hope you found something to inspire your wardrobe choices this Fall and Holiday season!!  Happy Thursday, friends!! XOXO N

Photo 101: Planning for Fall Family Photos, Part 1!

Hey, y’all!!  Today is our awesome monthly feature, Photo 101, which is all about photography!  It has been a big hit with you guys, and I am so happy to be answering your photo-related questions again and sharing a few tips along the way!!     Each month, we will talk about various topics.  So far, we’ve discussed:

Today, we are talking about dressing for Family photos!!  This is easily the number one question that I get from my clients!   I am so happy to be sharing my answers with y’all here today! I divided this topic into two categories….Today, I am just listing some guidelines…and tomorrow, I will show some actual items that I think would be great for Fall Family photos this season!   Here we go!   Part 1!

Dress with a Purpose

If your goal is to hang or frame your final images, then consider what look or color schemes you might like to have on your walls. 🙂 This might mean that you go more neutral to match your decor or add a certain pop of color to compliment your room based on your preferences. 🙂

Don’t be afraid of color, patterns, layers, and accessories

Gone are the days when you all have to dress in white tops and jeans! 😉 Adding interest in a portrait can mean adding in colors, accessories, a pattern or two, or simple layers! This can often make photos seem more dimensional and personal. 🙂

 Ladies First

Women’s and girls’ clothing is usually more complicated, so I always say that it’s best to work that out first! Ladies, feel free to start there, and match the men and boys once you have a good theme going. 🙂

Keep it Comfortable

Family portraits are all about capturing special memories, and these types of sessions just tend to go better when everyone is feeling comfortable!

It doesn’t have to be new

I follow this rule with my own family all the time. 🙂 If you have something that you love to wear/feel good in or love seeing your kids in, go ahead and use it for your family pictures. 🙂 This takes all of the guesswork out of whether everything will fit or be flattering! Once you do this one time, I promise you will never go back. 😉

Don’t be afraid to Dress according to your family’s personality

Most importantly, your outfits should reflect your family’s personality! Don’t be afraid to honor that! Whether your look is more classic or laid back, colorful or quirky…choose a wardrobe that shows that! You will love looking back on those memories so much!

That’s all for Part 1! Happy Wednesday, friends!! See you back here tomorrow for Part 2! XOXO Narci

What’s Going On

Hey, y’all!!  We have a full week over here!   It’s homecoming week which means all of the Texas Mums and traditions!

I stopped by the mum store last week (yes, such a place exists!), and I couldn’t get over all of the mums that have been made for all the schools in our county.  It’s a crafter’s dream, and a non-crafter’s worst nightmare! haha!

We’ve been over here making dinner together…

Also on the agenda?  I’ve been editing cute 1 year sessions.  This baby girl was one of my newborns and has come to see me for all her milestone sessions as well!   Oh what fun it has been to watch her grow!

I introduced Jackson to the fine art of TP-ing a house.  I’m proud to report that he’s a quick study and that we had a great time.  I should note that we did this to a family friend and we took it very easy on them.  haha.

What’s going on?  Oh, just a whole lot of CRAZY and a whole lot of fun!

Poor Dixie! She is well loved! 😉

What’s going on? A few sweet newborn sessions…

And, as always, a whole bunch of sports.

These are the days.  We will miss the chaos someday, I’m sure of it. 😉

Happy Tuesday, friends!! XOXO Narci

Carpool Book Club

Hey, y’all!! It’s the last Thursday of the month which means it is time for Carpool Book Club!

Each month, I share about the books that I’ve read!   These are the books that sit on my nightstand and that I read as a busy mama of 3 kids who are always on the go.   Before I started reading, I had a lot of empty space during the in between time.  You know, the time when I am waiting for an appointment or sitting with the kids outside….picking up a good book is my favorite way to pass that extra time now .  🙂  I have to admit that I was a little off my game this month…I loved a few, and I just kind of got through the others!  Want to hear about what I thought?  Here we go!

The Light we Lost

Okay, so I read this one, and it was such an emotional roller coaster!   This love story was tragic and sweet and full of drama!   I’m not sure this is my favorite kind of book, but it was so well-written and easy to read.  If you are into this type of love story, then this is your book!

Instant Mom

Next up, I read this book, and oh my heavens was it good!!  It was funny and honest and so refreshing!  If you’ve experienced fertility problems or are considering fostering, then this is a great option!    I loved this one!

It’s Always the Husband

Next up, I read this thriller, and I have to admit that this was not one of my favorites!  It’s long and windy, and there is a lot of drug use that just really turned me off….Plus, I just didn’t feel invested in any of the characters in this one, because they were so unlikable!  The twist at the end was awesome though, so there’s always that!

Class Mom

Before we left for Mexico, my Amazon Prime book order got delayed and then cancelled…so, Erika lent me this book while we were gone, and oh my it was so good!!   I literally laughed out loud at this one!! It’s about a character that acts as the room mom for her youngest son…and all with a heavy dose of humor.  You will love this one!

Jesus Always

And, finally, I was walking through Sams Club and came across this little devotional!   The entry for that particular day spoke to me, so I checked it out and loved it!  This devotional would be a perfect introductory devotional if you are looking to start having some quiet time!  If you need a simple, easy to read, and encouraging devotional, then this one was perfect for that!

What’s coming up?

Remember how I said that some of my books from this month didn’t make it?  I reordered the ones that didn’t come and will be reading them next month!

Looks like I have a fun month of reading ahead! Woohoo!  What books have you read this month?  Leave a comment with your faves, or you can link up below!  Happy Thursday, friends!

What’s Up Wednesday!

Hey, y’all!!  Today, I am linking up with Shay, Sheaffer, and Mel for their super FUN link-up: What’s up Wednesdays.  I just love sharing what is going on with us every month!   Let’s get started!

The last Wednesday of each month, we answer these questions.  Here we go!

What we’re eating this week….

We are making our way through this awesome cookbook, and it has made my dinner planning so easy!  I love all of the slow-cooker recipes!

What I’m reminiscing about…

Oh my goodness, I can’t wait to share this with you…Over the weekend, I went on a trip with my  best girls to Mexico and oh what fun we had!  I’ve been on a few one or two night road trips away from my family since our oldest was born, but a girls’ trip like this was a first for me!   We had the best time together!

Can I just take a minute to share that my girl, Shay at Mix and Match Travel, planned this trip, and her execution was absolutely perfect!  I literally did not lift a finger, and she made the process super simple!  She booked us the most beautiful resort, ground transportation, and helped us with passports plus all of the details and questions in between!   If you are looking to book a vacation, she’s the best!!    You won’t be disappointed!

This was our view on arrival!

I’ve seen a lot of pretty beaches, but this one was just gorgeous!  Definitely my favorite!

and the pool area was breathtaking as well!

We read, we ate, we talked for hours on end, laughed so hard that we nearly cried on more than one occasion!

We enjoyed so much girl time together! 🙂

I caught the sunrise on our last morning there, and it took my breath away!

So thankful for these ladies!

What I’m loving…

While we were on our trip, Erika, passed this book on to me, and it is so good, y’all!!  If you need something funny, this is your next read for sure!

I’ll be sure to share my full thoughts during my book review tomorrow!

What I’m wearing…

I’ve gotten a lot of questions about this top, and it is one of my new favorites!

I wore it last week and received a ton of compliments! I sized up for a roomier fit with my skinny jeans, and it was perfect!  I also picked up this plaid popover, and it is just as cute on!

I forgot to take a picture in it, but the fit is precious and very true to size!   It’s super flattering and in all of those Fall colors that we love so much!

I paired both of those tops with these grey jeans, and they were perfect!

If you are looking for a pair of mid-priced grey jeans, these are the ones for you!  The wash is fantastic, and the fit can’t be beat! SO CUTE!

A few weeks ago, I stopped in to J crew to grab some new church shirts for the boys!   While I was shopping I came across this CUTE top, and the cuffs are just so adorable!   It’s only $26 and will be a cute option this Fall! Love!

What I’m dreading…

nothing at the moment 🙂

What we’ve been up to…

Oh, you know!  Just all the sports!

mixed in with silly store antics…

some before school fun

and a silly selfie or two

We’ve been prepping for Homecoming

and enjoying Freshman Football too!

What I am working on….

I am making my way through my Fall calendar, and it is going great!   I have a few spots open for booking!

What I’m watching or reading…

As a matter of fact….Tomorrow, I will be sharing my latest reads as a part of our Carpool Book Club!

I can’t wait to share what I have been reading with you!

What I am looking forward to next month!

Bring on all the Halloween, the Harvest Parties, and more!

What show are you most excited about this Fall?

Did you tune in to the new episode of This is Us last night?  Eek!  I am so glad this is returning!

Rob and I started this show together this week!

And, I just started Pretty Little Liars this week while I am working!

Oh my goodness!   All 3 of these are SO good!!!  Amen to cozy Fall nights catching up on great TV! 🙂

Fall Home Tour

Hey y’all! Today, I am sharing a little Fall Home Tour! This time, I decided to take a few quick photos of my house and decor at night for a change of pace! Hope you enjoy!

This is our family room. This is where we spend most of our family time together!

The kids have a playroom and media room upstairs for their toys and such, but this main area is the heart of our home.

Another angle 🙂

For Fall, I bring out all my cozy, fur blankets for the chairs and sofa and deck out the fireplace with pumpkins.

Those navy, flannel check pillows were a Home goods find, and I love how cozy and different they are!

And, here’s the sofa table that we made out of the old barn shiplap that I bought in Round Top last Fall! 🙂

The kitchen got a few Fall touches!

And then there are few little Fall details here and there in our main area downstairs.

A few Fall touches can be found in the powder bathroom…

And at the dining room table as well!

There we go! Just a little bit of Fall here and there to make things a bit more festive! Hope you enjoyed our little Fall tour! See you back here tomorrow for What’s up Wednesday! Xo Narci

Monday :)

Happy Monday, y’all! See you back here tomorrow! Xo Narci
